This is Lee Dae-in, the artist of the Korean pop art ‘Giyeok yang Nieun goon’. Starting with the belief that ‘the world is made of sound’, I have been using the phonetic alphabet Hangul as a visual material for sound while working on telling the order of the sky, the earth, people, and consonants through patterns and narratives.
Sounds and consonants that become images and characters, respectively, show a new world in which they resonate with the audience.
I am trying to show the rhythm and energy of Hangeul as a visual language, covering the boundaries between yesterday and today, letters and pictures, and lastry stories and abstractions.
I have a desire to widely spread the meaning, beauty, and contemporaneity of the slogan “Unified by Sound” both domestically and internationally through performances for installations, fashion, and art brands, as well as exhibitions.
I sincerely hope that the history of sound and the desires and records of the universe spanning 13.8 billion years will become a source of comfort to some and a source of curiosity to others through my works as ‘visible sounds'.
